Shana Mangatal seems quite sweet and sincere, so out of all the Michael Jackson books on the market, why should we carefully scrutinize the truthfulness of Shana’s story?

A: In 2016 a longtime friend (now former friend) of Shana Mangatal’s shared private email’s between them. At that time they were co-conspirators of planting false information in MJ fan forums in regards to the alleged relationship between Michael Jackson and Shana Mangatal which painted the picture that they were together on New Years Eve 2007. (See The Email Expose’ section on the site for detailed information about the Emails). That alone makes one question the truthfulness of anything Shana says regarding Michael Jackson.

How Close were Shana Mangatal and Michael Jackson?

A: It is up to each reader to determine how close they believe they were, however, from the book as well as information found through research it appears that on many occasions Shana was in the background getting information from Michael’s inner circle. Some examples are: Shana described Michael as being lazy in her book when he canceled shows due to being in “pain”. She never mentioned he canceled the shows because he was in severe pain from surgery on his scalp. Shana had no idea that Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley were getting married. She was also kept in the dark about Debbie Rowe’s pregnancy with Prince. She says she found out via a tabloid. Prior to Prince being born, Debbie suffered a miscarriage and Shana doesn’t even mention that in her book.

How did Shana Mangatal have access to Michael Jackson? Was it due to her relationship with him?

A. Shana had access to information about Michael’s location and some of his activities through her work answering phones for his manager. She has shown many of Michael’s business documents that she brought home from work. But on personal matters, she was always going through others to get close to Michael for example her then friend Janis Dasilva was the reason she went to The Dangerous Tour in Japan, Michael’s Assistant Scott “House” Shaffer was the reason she went to Neverland the first time, she often relied on Grace Rwanda (Nicole) to keep her up to date on Michael and she spent a day at This Is It rehearsals courtesy of Dorian Holley, Michael’s background singer.

Why Is Shana Mangatal always accused of manipulating words to give false impressions?

A. Many fans are deceived by any author who writes mixed messages in a single sentence or chapter and are simply encouraged to use critical thinking to carefully discern between exaggeration, fact, fiction and extreme fiction.

Aren’t fans who are critical of Michael and Me just jealous of Shana Mangatal’s relationship with Michael Jackson?

A. History demonstrates that while the Michael Jackson fan base is extremely skeptical of every story about Michael Jackson, they are eager to support the truthfulness of all of Michael’s verifiable relationships. The truthfulness of Shana’s claim of a close relationship with Michael is very questionable based on her book and other evidence.

How much time did Shana Mangatal spend at Michael Jackson’s home (Neverland) alone with Michael?

A. By her own telling, while Shana Mangatal visited Neverland several times for public events, she was never accompanied by Michael Jackson nor spent time with him alone while there.

What proof does Shana Mangatal have which confirms that she was Michael Jackson’s romance?

A. Michael was known to give women he loved and cared for presents such as jewelry and other expensive gifts. The gifts Shana has from Michael are things that any fan would have such as signed magazine covers, a fedora and trinkets from Neverland including soap, a baseball hat and a watch (See Shana Mangatal’s Gifts From Michael Jackson). Also, there are no pictures of Shana and Michael together except for the one fan Meet and Greet photo she used for the cover of her book. Michael never publicly confirmed that Shana was romantically involved with him.

Did Shana Mangatal have to sign a NDA?

A. Shana Mangatal never mentioned signing a NDA other than the one everyone signed upon entering Neverland. It is well known that Michael Jackson made everyone who came in contact with him sign a NDA from the repairman to the shopkeepers. To think that Micheal would have a sexual relationship with Shana and only ask her to “promise” not to tell anyone is highly questionable and quite unbelievable. 

Shana Mangatal has stated “I knew that my story could perhaps inspire young people to go be their dreams.” Is this a book that should be recommended to young people?

A. No. If you believe Shana’s claims, she depicts herself as a woman chasing a man who was clearly avoiding her who she says she gave her virginity to without reason. Shana stated in an interview that, “After that first night I was thinking ‘We’re going to get married, we’re going to have kids.'” She portrays Michael as a man who stood her up, ignored her and even disrespected her. Yet in her book she writes that she should have tried a little harder to remain in his life. Shana’s life revolved and continues to revolve around Michael Jackson so much so that she still has not found happiness without him which is troubling. A book such as this may not be the best choice for young people to read, especially young girls.

What was the true nature of Michael Jackson and Shana Mangatal’s relationship?

A. Shana claims that she and Michael had a romantic relationship but it appears to be one that was strictly friendly business, as a Receptionist and an Extra on “Ghosts”. Whenever someone asks Shana what her fondest memories of Michael are, she always replies with an answer in reference to being on the set of “Ghosts” and nothing romantic or personal.
